Wild Writing illustrated as a vine.

Writing is always an encounter — an encounter with yourself, your creativity, your expression, your inner voice, the stories in your head, the characters, sources of inspiration, and memories. It’s an encounter with language(s), style, and rhythm. It’s an encounter with paper and pen, or with digital writing instruments. Collective, collaborative writing goes even further: it expands perspectives and allows convolutions of the mind to fuse and merge. However, this engagement with ourselves — and others — requires a safe space.

As Encounter GbR, we facilitate this space and offer various creative workshops for different institutions and target groups.

In the “Wild Writing” workshop, we use creative, entertaining exercises to delve into “wild,” associative writing, tapping into the creative potential of multilingualism (multiple languages) and neologisms (word creations). The goal isn’t to produce
“perfect” texts, but rather to express thoughts and emotions in a playful manner.

Between May and July 2025, we practiced “Wild Writing” with young people aged 10 to 18 at the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Library and the Haus der Nachbarschafft (House of Neighborhood) in Berlin-Charlottenburg. We were supported by the German Library Association’s “Digital Together! Creative with Media” program.

Below, you can find some texts created during the workshop, some of which were translated by Joanna Mitchell.
