Workshop: An Introduction to the Art of Storytelling

Would you like to go on a journey to the imaginary world of storytelling?

Have you ever met your inner storyteller?

Are you ready to suprise yourself with your ability to play and improvise?


This two day workshop targets adults with an interest in traditional narratives such as folk tales, fairy tales and myths. We will explore together the methods of telling a story through visualization techniques, improvisation, playfulness and retelling as core principles of contemporary oral storytelling. Participants will learn the essential steps of storytelling and how to apply these techniques in their presentations and communication.


Traditional and improvised stories
Introduction to the understanding of orality, images, symbols and metaphors
Use of storyboard and story mapping
Awareness of body language and voice


The workshop is open to anyone interested in the oral form of storytelling. No previous experience is required. The workshop will be held in English.

Medienwerkstatt Encounters invites you to our Facebook Watch Party: “Kiezstories”, focusing on the topic “back to the street”, or: “which impact has Corona made in our neighbourhoods?”

2 groups set out on a search – the result are two short films which portray how places in Berlin have changed since the lockdown.

After the screening there will be an opportunity for a Q&A with the filmmakers.

Nach dem Screening der Kurzfilme gibt es die Möglichkeit, Fragen zu stellen und mit den Filmemacher*innen ins Gespräch zu kommen.
